Precautions for the use and storage of xanthate

[general description]  Xanthate is a flotation sulfide mineral, such as galena, sphalerite, actinide,  pyrite, mercury, malachite, natural silverand natural gold, It’s the most common used collector.

In the process of flotation and beneficiation, in order to effectively separate useful minerals from gangue minerals, or separate various useful minerals, it is often necessary to add some reagents to change the physical and chemical properties of the mineral surface and the properties of the medium. These reagents are collectively referred to as flotation reagents.Xanthate is the most commonly used collector for flotation of sulfide ores.

Xanthate is divided into ethyl xanthate, amyl xanthate and so on.Xanthate with less than 4 carbon atoms in the hydrocarbon group, collectively referred to as low-grade xanthate, Xanthate with more than 4 carbon atoms is collectively referred to as advanced xanthate. In order to make xanthate fully exert its efficacy, Attention should be paid to the following aspects when using and keeping:

1. Use it in alkaline pulp as far as possible.Because xanthate is easy dissociation in water, it will arise hydrolysis and decomposition. If some conditions require it to be used in acid pulp, advanced xanthate should be used.Because advanced xanthate disintegrates more slowly than low-grade xanthate in acid pulp.

2. The xanthate solution should be used as needed, do not mix too much at one time, and do not mix it with hot water. At the production site, xanthate is generally formulated into a 1% aqueous solution for use.Because xanthate is easy to hydrolyze, decompose and fail, So don’t match too much at a time. It cannot be prepared with hot water, because xanthate will decompose faster in case of heat.

3. In order to prevent xanthate from decomposition and failure, it should be kept in a closed place, Prevent contact with moist air and water, Store in a cool , dry and well ventilated place, Do not heat, pay attention to fire prevention.
