Following the holiday, domestic ethanol prices fell 0.32% within the cycle, down 1.53% month-on-month, but up 9.84% year-on-year. The domestic ethanol market as a whole showed a weak trend, with multiple negative factors converging, leading to a gradual decline in prices. On the one hand, demand from the liquor industry weakened, resulting in reduced ethanol purchases; on the other hand, the price of corn, a core raw material for ethanol production, fell, further reducing the cost support for ethanol production. Affected by this, smaller producers were the first to lower their quotations, driving overall ethanol prices down.
From a cost perspective, during the May Day holiday, corn prices in Northeast China remained relatively stable, with overall market activity being low and no significant price adjustments observed. However, after the holiday, rumors of auctions for expired rice put downward pressure on market sentiment, leading to weaker futures prices and a slight decrease in purchase prices at northern ports compared to before the holiday. The cost side for ethanol was also negatively impacted.
On the supply side, due to high prices and sluggish market sales, factory inventories continue to rise, leading companies to lower prices to reduce inventory. This is a bearish factor affecting ethanol supply.
On the demand side, downstream markets will maintain a just-in-time purchasing pace. Specifically, ethyl acetate plants may have maintenance plans in May, coupled with declining exports, which will weaken their demand for ethanol. Demand from the liquor industry is also declining as temperatures rise, resulting in reduced ethanol consumption. This is a bearish factor affecting ethanol demand.
Looking ahead, major bio-fermentation ethanol plants in Northeast China are planning maintenance, directly leading to a decrease in regional supply. Meanwhile, corn, as a core production raw material, is expected to see a slight price increase, and ethanol plants will continue to operate at low capacity. These multiple factors will collectively support price stability. The ethanol market is expected to consolidate.、
