Ethanol, also known as alcohol or spirits, has the CAS number 64-17-5. Its chemical structural formula is CH3CH2OH or C2H5OH, and its molecular formula is C2H6O, with a molecular weight of 46.07. Ethanol has a melting point of -114.1 ℃, a boiling point of 78.3 ℃, and a flash point of 14.0 ℃. Its density is 0.7893 g/cm³ (20 ℃). Ethanol is a colorless, transparent liquid; aqueous solutions have a wine-like odor and a slightly pungent taste. Ethanol is miscible with water in any proportion and is miscible with chloroform, ether, methanol, acetone, and most other organic solvents. Ethanol is volatile at room temperature and pressure. It has low toxicity, but pure ethanol is not suitable for direct consumption.
From December 1st to 5th, domestic ethanol prices rose, increasing by 1.81% month-on-month and decreasing by 1.27% year-on-year. The domestic ethanol market showed some signs of recovery, with slight regional variations. A slight increase in raw material corn prices provided cost support for ethanol prices. Most producers maintained normal production, resulting in relatively stable supply. Downstream chemical companies saw price increases, while liquor producers maintained only essential purchases.
From a cost perspective, corn prices have risen slightly, while ethanol plants are making purchases based on immediate needs. This weakens the positive factors affecting ethanol costs.
On the supply side, several previously shut-down enterprises have recently resumed production, which is a negative factor affecting the ethanol supply.
On the demand side, downstream ethyl acetate production saw restarts at Yueyang Changde and Ningxia Ruiyuan plants, and the Yankuang Lunan plant resume operations after a short shutdown. Jiangsu Suopu’s plant experienced load fluctuations, leading to an increase in ethyl acetate capacity utilization. However, the demand for ethanol was negatively impacted by several factors.
Overall, the short-term outlook for the ethanol market is expected to be characterized by narrow fluctuations.
