1. Price Trend
This week, acrylic acid spot prices rebounded after a period of decline. Data shows that as of June 16, the benchmark price of acrylic acid had increased by 2.00% compared to the beginning of the week. The market center of gravity shifted slightly upward.
2. Supply and demand and cost fundamentals
(1) Cost side
Upstream raw material propylene prices have fallen, leaving acrylic acid production costs without strong support. This limits the potential for profit recovery in the industry, and factories are reluctant to significantly raise spot prices. Therefore, this round of price increases is not cost-driven. As of June 16, the benchmark price of propylene had decreased by 5.11% compared to the beginning of the month.
(2) Demand side
The main driver of this round of slight price increases came from downstream demand. Downstream acrylate and specialty ester manufacturers had previously focused on consuming long-term contracts. As prices fell, some end-users replenished their inventories, leading to a recovery in spot market transactions. Holders of goods raised their offers accordingly, driving up market prices. However, there was no large-scale concentrated replenishment activity downstream, and the increase in demand was limited, making it difficult to push prices significantly higher.
In the short term, the positive impact of downstream restocking demand is likely to continue, coupled with bottoming reversal signals from moving averages, suggesting that acrylic acid spot prices may maintain a slightly stronger trend. However, without support from raw materials and with no significant increase in overall downstream operating rates, the market lacks a core driver for a sustained surge.
In the medium to long term, prices on the 60-day and 90-day cycles remain low. Only if downstream demand further recovers and raw material prices stabilize will there be room for a sustained market recovery. Conversely, once the restocking period ends, the market may return to a period of consolidation.
